Who we are

The A.I.G. - Italian Association of Youth Hostels - has as its institutional purpose the promotion of youth tourism, through the creation and management of Youth Hostels, and the implementation of any other effect leading to favor the moral improvement, cultural and physical youth through a practice of tourism, it considered indispensable means to social advancement of young people and to promote mutual understanding and thus the affirmation of the universal feelings of peace and fraternal solidarity.

Established in 1945, the A.I.G. It is a non-profit organization (1.6.48 DPR) and Relief (DM 11/06/59) national character and non-profit. Organs of the Central part, as members of law, representatives of relevant ministries in the field of Education, Youth and Tourism, appointed by their respective governments. The A.I.G. is included among the UN reported Governmental Organizations not among the Social Development authorities.

The AIG also has an arrangement socio Federturismo Confindustria and effective member of the National Forum of the Third Sector, Fitus and Unionturismo.

The AIG is one of the founding members of the National Youth Forum.

Internationally the A.I.G. is a member and the sole representative for Italy of the International Federation of Youth Hostels (HI - Hostelling International), world's leading body responsible for the receptiveness of young people, with consultative status at UNESCO. Converge in Hostelling International 90 national organizations in every continent. Each of them is responsible for the operation of hostels territorial employees and related social and cultural activities.

The A.I.G. It has structure and strictly democratic organization: the Youth Hostels A.I.G. no distinction of race, nationality is made, color, religion, sex, social class or political opinion. The Youth Hostels of the international network are reserved to holders of social cards, issued-with the right to mutual recognition - by the Associations-member of Hostelling International. Therefore, the card issued by a National Association gives the owner the right to access not only the Hostels of the national network of their own country, but also the competence of the Confederate Hostels foreign associations.
